The play Hedgehog’s Home is inspired by Branko Ćopić’s timeless work and tells the heartwarming story of Ježurka Ježić, a hedgehog who lives proudly in his humble home. Although the other animals mock him for his small and unassuming house, Ježurka shows that the true value of a home lies in love, honesty, and being content with what we have. Combining live acting and puppetry, this production brings the words of the celebrated writer to life in a creative and engaging way. It takes the audience on a playful and thought-provoking adventure that celebrates modesty, personal identity, and the warmth of home.
Virovitica’s theatrical tradition dates back to 1900, while the Theatre has operated continuously as a professional company since 1945. Over eight decades, it has produced more than 400 premieres and presented over 10,000 performances.
Its repertoire is equally dedicated to children and adults, encompassing classical and contemporary drama, theatre for young audiences, and puppetry. With five premieres and around 150 performances each season, Virovitica Theatre performs throughout Croatia and regularly appears at international festivals. Its strong ensemble, diverse artistic collaborations, and numerous awards and nominations have established it as an important presence on the Croatian theatre scene.
